Biography/Summary

Laura Ingersoll was born on September 13 1775 to Thomas and Elizabeth Ingersoll.  She was born in Great Barrington Massachusetts.  Laura had 3 sisters.  Elizabeth, Mira and Abigail.  Abigail was given up for adoption with the last name Nash.  Unfortunately, a year later, her Mum past away from an unknown cause.  Her Dad then married Mercy Smith who also past away 4 year later from tuberculosis.  Finally, James married Sally Backus whom he had 7 kids with.  Laura and her family then moved to upper Canada.

     In 1797 Laura Ingersoll married James Secord.  She then got the name we all know today, Laura Secord.  James and Laura had 7 kids.  During the battle of Queenston heights, James was severely injured.  Laura found him bleeding from a gunshot wound in the field and nursed him.  1 evening, American soldiers invaded Mrs. Secord's house and demanded dinner.  She fed them, gave them plenty to drink and overheard them planning a surprise attack on Beaver dams.  Originally James was suppose to go but because of his injuries, Laura went instead.  From then on Laura embarked on a 32K kilometre journey to Lieutenant Fitzgibbon's headquarter.  After a day of walking Laura finally arrived.  She told him and he took note.  a few days later there was a attack and all 500 American men surrendered to the 50 Canadian men.

     After the attack, the officials aide no bote in Mrs. Secord aid in there success.  After a few years she did receiver 100£.
